I'm not sure if there's anything that could be done to help me recover the 2.5 million gold I've lost but I was trying to trade gold to myself in a semi-secure way (instead of just throwing it on the ground and picking it back up) so I decided to try using the clan hall's donation pit. I was assuming that a donation pit would accept gold and I didn't want to pay the fee for the banker, but when I put my gold into the chest I got a message stating "You may not put stackable items into this container. You may put such items into a bag then put the bag in here." At this point it didn't give me my gold back but instead just deleted it. It wasn't on the floor, it wasn't in the chest, it just wasn't.
I've repeated what I did with 10g to show how this bug happens and to help warn everyone not to try it.

Standard DM Policy is not to replace lost items except under extreme circumstances like a database corruption. Although I must admit this was a clever if not ill fated idea. Standard practice however is to let a clan member hold the gold.

Brutal bug. It's not perfectly safe on a player, but it's by and far the safest place you can have anything. To have an item leave your page is to roll the dice with the server.

I for one would like to have a safer way to transfer items, stackables and money to other alts. As mentioned above to transfer 2.5 Mil it would cost 250,000 in bank fees. These bank fees are nothing more than legal robbery. I know, I know that I do not have to use the bank which defeats the purpose of the bank. If the bank fee was 5 or 10 gp per transaction maybe more people would use the bank instead of putting their checkbook in the trash pit. Sometimes when transferring items to other alts there is no other clan member online. With Gamespy down it may take awhile before you can log back in, leaving the items exposed for someone to pickup. Would it be possible to purchase a money bag for 10 gp to use in the transfer of money in the clan pit so we do not lose the money. PLEASE DO NOT CHARGE ME IT WAS JUST MY 2 CENTS WORTH.

Oh god your inventory is a mess. Clawing my eyes out When your Eclipse, you don't bother organizing your inventory. When a Kindred kills you, you'll just have to organize it again. jk! -Gyro

At the time there weren't any other clan members on, or even any other players. I have no real way of proving I had the gold either (which is the main reason I didn't ask if I could get it reimbursed). I just wanted to warn everyone and hope they don't fall into the same pitfall I did. Anyways, back to farming! I have a lot of gold to make up for Also, when I'm trying to pick up as many sellables as I can I tend to slop all of my stuff I don't want to sell into the same bag slot so I won't accidentally sell it. Normally I keep myself more organized. -whispers- please don't hate me ;-;

Yes, its unfortunate that sometimes there is corruption with data and stuff gets lost. Normally, this does not occur. We have pretty good measures in place for reading/writing to the DB for players saves, exit, enter and the clan chests. The central banking system follows the same path.
As far as transferring gear and gold between alts that's 100000% safe- get a friend to assist. Also, what's wrong with placing it on the floor or in a secret spot and then logging an alt?
Anyway, chest's will not, and have never saved gold. Bottom line, the methods in place DO WORK. If you are trying to develop your own methods that work outside this- testing the better valor of the day!

Also, what's wrong with placing it on the floor or in a secret spot and then logging an alt? Problem with this is that if the server drops at that exact time, the gold you dropped on the floor is lost or in the secret spot is lost. It's a low possibility, but it is there ... So just wait until another player is online and ask him to hold it until you switch, if you wanna be extra careful have that player logout and log back in before you do - characters are saved on logout, so if there was a power blackout, your cash would still be safe (probably doubled actually).

We replace lost items under extreme circumstances and if you take a screen shot- (be sure we see date and times and what the focus is) then we could replace it. We can certainly compare it to the server reset time logs (or crash logs).
As a matter of reference, the server was down last month (November) a total of 6 times. 5 of those were planned.
