There exists an item so powerful on this server now, that you can effectively cripple and eliminate 1 on 1 direct damage combat against a Sorcerer/Wizard. It's not even a boss drop.
"Anti-Magic hood"
10/- Magic resist.
That's it, that's all this hood has on it. It seems harmless enough at first glance.
But magic damage doesn't exist in many forms, in fact most magic damage comes purely from sorcerers/wizards, there are a few magic damage spells from bards and a few self buff spells for melee that can add a few points of magic damage on a weapon.
The core spells this effect are of the magic missile variety.
IGMS cast by a pure lvl 40 Wizard/Sorcerer will fire 20 magical bolts at 2d6 magical damage. This is 240 damage at max, which with maximize spell is possible. However the cloak doesn't drop the damage to 230 it drops it to 40 damage (2 damage per bolt). Effectively making this cloak 200/- for purposes against IGMS. This is also assuming you're using a maximized IGMS (A 9th level spell slot). To use a lower slotted IGMS you would risk doing 0's except on 11 or 12 rolls.
It would take 10~12 casts of Maximized IGMS to kill someone with 400 HP, most Sorcs/Wiz do not have 10 (I have exactly 9) casts of a 9th level spell. Were someone like Badger with 900+ HP to pick this up, he would be a 1 man army against Wiz/Sorcs with some 22+ IGMS casts required to bring him close to death, we'd have to pray he fell asleep and forgot his heal potion.
"Use another spell" This is a great argument actually, it's the way we work, when confronted with a problem that 1 spell does not fix, we utilize another. It's the joy in playing a mage, we enjoy being faced with the challenge to be clever to overcome something.
However.
There are not many spell choices left for us that do not damage allies, ourselves, nerfed (Flame arrow one of our only other forms of single target damage had it's damage cut in half), or is fire damage (A core chunk of spells are fire in the Sorcerer/Wizard books) which I cannot think of one fire spell that cannot have a reflex save made to either take half or no damage depending on your feats.
IGMS has been our go to spell to avoid damage against allies and to generally just do our ranged damage, not always by choice, but because the other options just do not cut it in our moderate to high magic world where + to universal saves are a plenty and builds get crazy.
This pushes Sorcs/Wizs in pvp to utility or spamming our instant death spells and hoping they roll a 1 or we don't clip an ally (with everyone being Melee these days, makes it a pretty tough pickle to aim a spell to only hit an enemy).
Sorcerers/Wizards deal high damage on the grounds that we have a limited number of uses of this high damage. Melee does not have this limitation.
I ask that this cloak be either removed completely, or have heavy negatives to counter the fact that simply by wearing this, you can out wait the damage shields and auto attack your way to victory.
