Today, on the day of 22nd of November, 2015, Nightmare Badger has explored the depths of the Temple of Ice on a command from his Mistress, Hild. His hotheaded decision (for he did not prepare any provisions in the slightest, only taking what he already had on him) almost cost him his life, as the Temple is a harsh place which can quickly make sure your heal potion chugging arm is up to snuff.
The beginnings were easy, the early Icy Matrons falling before his hammer without a problem. The Reaver was a slight obstacle, but even he quickly dropped to the floor, allowing Nightmare to pry a key from his cold fingers. Soon, our dwarven protagonist drudged through more Icy Matrons, some Dragons and an Frozen Soul and came to a big hole. "Here goes nothing" he thought and jumped in.
Now he was really in the frozen wastelands near the Temple. The cold was even more biting as before, with loads of enemies left and right. Not once breaking his stride, the stalwart dwarf continued on, ignoring the spells prickling at his skin.
Continuing on, the Matrons numbers never seemed to diminish, and they have added traps and more Dragons to help them. But alas, even together they did not manage to stop the Bulwark of Defense that is Nightmare Badger.
Soon afterwards, Nightmare Badger stood at the beginnings of a maze. "Good Lord", he thought, "I remember just enough about this place to know I have no idea where to go ... ". And off exploring he went, dragging one of the Dragons after him as a pet until he found an Essence Guardian. After kindly being asked to open the doors, the Guardian refused, so it was head bashing time. Even though the Guardian was quite sturdy and even had healing spells, Nightmare was even sturdier and had even more healing potions!
Opening the doors behind the Guardian lead to ... more maze, more doors and more Guardians. For some reason they thought it was fair to gang up on the brave explorer, so soon they lay dead at his feet.
The maze took a long time to overcome, the thundering walk of Guardians overshadowed with the constant rain of Ice Storm spells bashing against Nightmares helm. But give up he did not, and finally managed to solve the maze and come to the Sanctum Courtyard.
Once inside, Nightmare readied his hammer for more enemies but instead he found a ... talking book?
After answering to the best of his abilities, he was confronted with a powerful enemy - an Elder Scout!
Who, after a fierce fight, finally got his eternal rest.
Opening the doors and stepping through another portal lead Nightmare to the Inner Sanctum! "Finally", he thought, "almost there!". But of course there were yet some more enemies to fight, first an upgraded version of the Essence Guardians stood before Nightmare.
But not for long.
Similar to before, a stronger version of the Essence Dragon awaited in the next room.
But did not do much better then its younger kin.
With supplies running low, weariness setting in and an unknown voice telling him that the Gods might be doing something with the inner workings of the world, Nightmare knew he could not handle the next room. With a prayer to his Mistress on his lips, he still charged forward ... and died a horrible death to a Quivering Palm from a floating skull. "How", Nightmare thought to himself, "they do not even have palms ... " before everything turned dark. But soon the power of Hild covered his soul and he awoke, staring at the blue skies over Shandalar. "Hmm, guess I really should have some companions with me the next time I go do that" he said to himself and went to the nearest store to identify his loot.
