All merchants in Dominia have special, unseen interactions with players that will directly affect the cost of the goods they sell to or buy from the player.
Goods bought in sold are based on a percentage of the items base price. This percentage is typically set by the merchant but will be adjusted by how the merchant feels towards your PC.
Mark Up costs represent what your PC can expect to pay for something
Mark Down costs represent what your PC can expect to receive for selling something
Getting the merchant to like you so these prices change, is based on a few factors
Faction:
Hostile= 0-10
Neutral= 11-89
Friendly= 90-100
Based on the PC's faction towards the merchant, a Faction Modifier is determined:
>= 0 & < 11: FM = 500
>=11 & <=20: FM = 150
>=21 & <=30: FM = 120
>=31 & <=40: FM = 90
>=41 & <=50: FM = 70
>=51 & <=60: FM = 50
>=61 & <=70: FM = 35
>=71 & <=80: FM = 25
>=81 & <=90: FM = 15
>=91 & <=100: FM = 10
Haggling:
Both the player and the merchant are always trying to get the best deal!
A Haggle Modifier is also determined:
PC Persuade Skill + Charisma Modifier + 1d20
Merchant Persuade Skill + Charisma Modifier + 1d20
Haggle Modifier = Merchant result - PC result / 2
In the end, these values are used to adjust a merchants mark up and mark down prices. In most cases, this will be better than what the merchant would normally offer!
Base Faction Modifier + Base Haggle Bonus = Amount to increase mark up and mark down prices (if this value is less then 5, then the increase to both is 5)
Example:
PC Faction Modifier = 10 (i.e. friendly to merchant at 93)
PC Haggle = 18 (e.g. skill = 10, charisma mod =3, 5 on a d20 roll)
Merchant Haggle = 48 (e.g. skill = 30, charisma mod =0, 18 on a d20 roll)
Haggle Base = 40 (e.g. 10 + (48 - 18))
Mark Up and Mark Down will increased by 40 or .4 % the cost of all items. A potion of Barkskin (base price of 80gp) will now cost 32gp!
